Nandan Bal Camp

Who teaches better than the professionals? That’s why we like the tennis camps run by Nandan Bal, a former player and coach for India in the Davis Cup, even if we’re not thrilled that enrollment is contingent upon club membership. Bal runs three programs in Mumbai, one at the Cricket Club of India (CCI), at Bombay Gymkhana, and at Khar Gymkhana. The CCI program coaches state-, national- and international-level players every evening except Sunday, so the group trends toward older children. If your budding tennis pro is still a beginner, try the Bombay Gym program, or the Leander Paes Tennis Academy, which Bal runs from Khar Gym. These programs offer beginner training from 4-12 years, as well as intermediate and professional training, six days a week. Again, club membership is required before enrolling in one of these programs, but the attentive coaching makes the investment worthwhile.
